Dolphin Watching Excursion

A 3-hour tour to spot dolphins, admire them and photograph them while sailing in the splendid waters surrounding Golfo Aranci, the promontory of Capo Figari and the island of Figarolo. A stop for swimming and an aperitif served on board will make this excursion even more unforgettable.

In the coastal waters of north-eastern Sardinia, between the Maddalena Archipelago, the Costa Smeralda and the Island of Tavolara and Molara, dolphin sightings are almost a constant, especially in spring and autumn. During the months of July and August, however, the possibility of meeting them is greater in the early hours of the day and at sunset, when there is less boat traffic.

The species of dolphins that frequent these waters in greater numbers are mainly three, the bottlenose dolphin, the striped dolphin and the common dolphin, which despite its generic name, is not so common.

During our sailing trips they usually swim on the wave created by the bow of the boat and are attracted by the bulb, that counterweight of cast iron and iron that is found underwater and that serves to counteract the weight of the emerged parts of the boat, preventing it from capsizing. We do not know exactly why but this blue “torpedo” attached under the keel intrigues and attracts them. We see them swimming sinuously, diving on one side and emerging on the other, as in an underwater choreography. Taking turns in this game gives us the opportunity to see them more closely, to film and photograph them with ease.
